As of this moment, the answer is, no, you can not recover it, the file is as good as lost unless they magicaly patch the game to fix this issue (at which point it probly will fix the issue but not recover your already corrupt save file) therokito - 12 years ago - report. 0 0.
In Dead Island 1, the game had issues with saving too many data in the save file because it would attempt to save said data too often and corrupt the data in the process. (If you had more than X items/components in your inventory, the game save would easily corrupt and all progression would be lost.)

You have to open the quest list and highlight, or track a continuous quest. There are 4 bottles of alcohol down the stairs from Kims bungalow so i tracked her water quest, which now puts me in her bungalow when i use load last checkpoint. And it saves everything you pick up and the bottles respawn each time.
